Milind Soman says OTT platforms are giving 90s actors a new lease of opportunities (2026-02-16T13:00:00+05:30)

IANS Photo Mumbai, (IANS): Actor Milind Soman has highlighted how the entertainment industry has transformed with the rise of OTT and digital platforms. Speaking exclusively to IANS during an event organized by Zydus Pinkathon, Milind Soman spoke about opportunities for veteran actors. He explained that with more content being created for films and streaming platforms, experienced actors from the 90s are now getting a chance to showcase their talent and make a strong mark in the industry. When asked about the resurgence of 90s actors in today’s entertainment landscape, the Paurashpur actor stated that the rise of OTT platforms has helped the older generation gain more opportunities. Milind Soman shared, “I would say that the entire industry has changed because we now have the internet, OTT platforms have emerged, and there is much more entertainment available. Today, there are more options for entertainment—films are being made, shows are being created for OTT. Because of this, actors from the older generation are also getting more opportunities. And since they have more experience, when we watch them, they perform their roles exceptionally well. So, I think it’s a good time for everyone; opportunities are available everywhere.” Needless to say, OTT platforms have given a new lease of life to 90s actors like Bobby Deol. Although his career started on a high note, he struggled to make a lasting mark in the industry. Deol's recent work in streaming hits such as “Aashram” and “Class of 83” has, however, marked a remarkable comeback. Similarly, recently Akshaye Khanna has also benefited from the changing entertainment landscape. In his recent release “Dhurandhar,” he delivered a performance that was widely appreciated.Speaking of Milind Soman, the actor has made notable appearances in several popular OTT shows. He starred as Boris in the fantasy drama “Paurashpur,” and portrayed Dr. Aamir Warsi in the acclaimed series “Four More Shots Please.” Milind Soman says OTT platforms are giving 90s actors a new lease of opportunities | MorungExpress | morungexpress.com |
Mithila Palkar didn’t plan her professional journey, says she went with the flow (2026-02-13T13:22:00+05:30)

(Photo : IANS/mithilapalkar/insta) Mumbai, (IANS): Actress-singer Mithila Palkar, who is known for ‘Little Things’, ‘Karwaan’, ‘Chopsticks’, and others, has shared that she didn’t operate under a larger plan to achieve a goal in her professional life. Mithila broke out as a singer on the Internet, later followed it up with acting on OTT, and transitioned into the theatricals. When asked about her conscious choices as an artiste that she took up in her journey, the actress told IANS, “I have always maintained that I went with the flow when it came to navigating my professional life. For me to be an actor, I grabbed it with both hands. What did I know what the internet was going to do? 10 years ago, we were all just starting out on the Internet. The internet revolution was just beginning, in terms of the Internet being a legit medium of entertainment. That time TV and theater and films were the big things. Radio was a big thing. So, we didn't know that the Internet could play out this way. So, I was also experimenting. I was willing to experiment with anything that would let me be an actor and that would give me the creative satisfaction of being an actor”. She further mentioned, “So, I auditioned for anything and everything. The way life has played out for me, is something that I don't think I could have planned better for myself. So, I'm glad I didn't plan it. BecauseI gave myself the freedom to go with the flow and I literally did. I got Filter Copy, who gave me ‘News Darshan’, which was a new satire comedy show after which Dhruv and I did two comedy sketches. And after that, ‘Little Things’ happened, ‘Girl in the City’ happened. So, everything kind of took off from the previous thing. So, I don't think if I would have planned it, I would have planned it this well”.“I do want to mention that I was fortunate that I met the right people at the right time. The people whom I spoke with 8 years ago, we haven't met after that. But 8 years ago, that person mattered a lot in my life, they were very fundamental person in my journey. And I will not forget those people. I'm not mentioning too many of them. But I will not forget what they did for me that helped me push myself. And they have been like, I have had mentors through various phases of my life who have just, you know, stuck by me and said, ‘You don't want to do it? Don't do it’. And maybe after that, we didn't talk because it was just related to one certain project. But they have stuck by me. So, I am very grateful that I did meet the right people at the right time who were kind enough to lead the way for me”, she added. Orange Sky on top of world indie music charts (2025-06-27T12:57:00+05:30)
![]() Cover artwork for the single, Hungry Like the Wolf, by Orange Sky. From left: lead guitarist Dax Cartar, guitarist and lead vocalist Nigel Rojas, drummer Dion Camacho, and bassist and vocalist Nicholas Rojas. Photo and Artwork courtesy Soft Box Studios. - Orange Sky is hungry. Hungry Like the Wolf, that is. The Trinidad and Tobago rock band’s ska-soaked cover of Duran Duran’s breakout 80s hit has been climbing independent music charts since its October release. It is now number two on the Digital Radio Tracker Official World Indie Music Charts Top 100. Founding member, guitarist and vocalist Nigel Rojas was full of enthusiasm over the news, a media release said. Digital Radio Tracker takes its play stats from over 5,000 US and international radio stations, including FM and internet stations, noncommercial and commercial broadcasters. The Orange Sky cover of Hungry Like the Wolf has also been a fixture on the European Indie Music Chart since its release. Orange Sky is no stranger to hits. Over its 28-year history Orange Sky has had nearly 30 radio hits and has toured extensively. This year saw the band doing 12 international shows and thrilling Guyanese fans with three performances. With Rojas’ brother, longtime collaborator and band co-founder Nicholas on bass and backing vocals, Dax Cartar on lead guitar, and Dion Camacho on drums, the band has continued to make music in the midst of challenges and even released new music during the covid19 lockdowns, the release said. The Hungry Like the Wolf cover takes the original synth-pop ballad up by some BPMs and translates it into a throbbing, muscular ska-punk joint. Camacho’s driving drums and Cartar’s sharp licks on lead guitar combine with the brothers’ growled harmonies and Nigel’s ad-lib chanting on the track to make this remake fresh, the release said. “We grew up with this song,” Nigel said in the release. “That reference might date us because the Duran Duran original came out in 1982. But we think it’s our experience and knowing the song so intimately that gave us the authority to reinterpret it in a new Caribbean voice. You know Orange Sky can’t do ordinary’, and believe me this cover is not ordinary at all. It’s a banger and so far the fans love it. “We are receiving heavy rotation from radio stations on the West Coast of the US, in California, Oregon and Seattle, and other stations across the US, UK and Europe. TT and regional broadcasters have also picked up the release and are giving it tremendous airplay. “These charts are based on the amount of plays on world radio and playlists –satellite, online and syndicated– from established and emerging artists, unlike the Billboard charts which are based on sales of music. But make no mistake, ‘plays’ eventually turn into ‘sales.” The band plans to parlay the song’s initial impact into even more plays. “We are in the process of making a super video for the single, Hungry Like the Wolf, to fulfill the demand of the new interest and listenership through international radio.” Orange Sky won’t stop there. “We have plans for a four-country regional independent tour in March 2024 as well as appearances booked in festivals in Europe and the US West Coast and Hawaii.” The song was produced by Wayne DeSilva and recorded and mixed at The Purple Room at Audio Concepts, St James, under executive producer Andrew Bernard (of Touchdown fame).Listen to Orange Sky’s Hungry Like a Wolf on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon and YouTube. Social media has positives, pitfalls for actors, producers (2015-07-16T17:07:00+05:30)
![]()
Social media is giving television stars and creators a more direct relationship with fans and, as actor Joseph Morgan of the CW’s “The Originals” can attest, requires a thick skin. The connection can be particularly intense for shows on the CW, which has a comparatively young audience and shows with a heavy geek factor of comic book heroes, vampires and zombies. Fans don’t hesitate to speak out about what they do or don’t like on their favourite programmes. “There are always people who feel strongly that they don’t like something that happens,” Morgan, who plays Niklaus Maiaelson in The Vampire Diaries spinoff, said at a television conference on Sunday. “You have to accept that that’s a good thing — as long as people are feeling one way or another.” The online response makes him feel like he’s involved in the biggest play he’s ever been in, said Ian Somerhalder, who plays Damon Salvatore in The Vampire Diaries. Caroline Dries, executive producer of The Vampire Diaries, said her studio encourages producers and actors to live tweet when episodes of the show are airing. She’s resisted so far — she finds it “annoying” — but does watch what people are saying. The danger can come in listening too much. Do you try to write the show in response to what you think fans want to see? “The fans are so polarised in what they are rooting for that to appease all of them the show would be gobbledygook,” Dries said. “It wouldn’t make any sense.” Dries’ Twitter following is almost entirely composed of show fans. She takes the feedback like any human would — pride when something she’s written draws praise, hurt feelings when it’s the opposite. Actors and producers are warned against getting into online arguments with fans, although they don’t always succeed. Michael Narducci, executive producer of The Originals, found himself getting into a heated back-and-forth with a 16-year-old. He said he was responding to someone who suggested that one of the show’s characters be killed off. “Our fans are so passionate,” he said. “I want them to be passionate, but it hurts my feelings when they are insulting to the actors.”Source: The Asian Age, Image: flickr.com

Social media is no fun for Kate Upton (2015-06-15T12:28:00+05:30)
![]()
Even though Kate Upton shot to fame on social media— after clips of her dancing to The Dougie and The Cat Daddy went viral — the 22-year-old says she’s starting to turn away from the platforms that put her on the map. “I feel like social media at this point is kind of b******," the Sports Illustrated model told Net-a-Porter’s latest edition of The Edit. “At the beginning it was amazing and a lot of fun. It was like, ‘Cool, I can talk to my fans! And now I think that we’re losing the art of it. When I first joined Twitter it was just me, but [when] you’ve got contracts, it’s so planned. Now it’s about who has the best marketing, not who has a really good personality,” she explained. Kate, who is dating baseball star Justin Verlander, certainly has a point: her own Twitter feed is cluttered with promotional posts, most recently pushing her collaboration with makeup artist Bobbi Brown or her charitable work with animal adoption agencies. Twitter comes to Rajat Kapoor rescue (2014-10-13T08:19:00+05:30)
Ankhon Dekhi is a humorous film about a man's journey, the script for which has been written by Rajat Kapoor himself. Infact after the script was complete, Rajat approached quite a few production houses with the script. After failing to raise money for his upcoming independent film, a disheartened Rajat Kapoor had poured out his disappointment in a tweet stating that he will put the script on a backburner and go back to theatre. Never had he thought that a simple tweet can do what months of his hard work couldn’t. Within hours, he landed a producer. Manish Mundra, an NRI with a petrochemical factory in Nigeria who followed Rajat on the social networking site and had watched his films, tweeted back saying he was interested in investing in the project. When contacted Manish in Nigeria, he confirmed the news over the phone and said: “Rajat sent across his cell number and we had a telephonic conversation. He offered to send me the script but I was more interested in the budget.” Rajat initially thought it was a hoax as Manish knew nothing about the industry or the working of a film. However after a brief interaction over email and then phone he found himself a producer. Manish flew down to Mumbai, met him and signed up as the producer of Ankhon Dekhi before flying back leaving him to make the film the way he wanted. “He returned when the film was ready and fortunately liked it a lot. Now, Manish is so gung-ho about the medium that he plans to make at least one film a year,” said a delighted Rajat. His debut production, Ankhon Dekhi, which is about an elderly man who one fine day decides he will only believe what he sees, is gearing up for a March 21 release. “It is a modest budget for a Hindi film but the biggest budget I have worked with. If the film works, maybe Manish and I will collaborate on another film,” said the still-awed Rajat who is yet to believe his luck. His producer added, “I’ve invested Rs 8-10 crores in the film which is small for Bollywood but big for me. But it’s worth the expense.” Ankhon Dekhi will mark Rajat coming back to direction after a huge gap. Previously, Rajat has directed films like Mixed Doubles (2006) and Mithya (2008) Source: page3bollywood.com
