By scott moore: Hello, I read alot and listen to videos that leaders make, and I am developing my own story in network marketing. The industry has been proven to allow enough people a real, fulfilling lifestyle to quite when things are tough. Mark Yarnell's book, "Your First Year in Network Marketing" sums up two major issues that people need to be aware of when they first join a network marketing company. People don't always get this information stressed heavily enough. One big trap is when people run straight home and tell their spouse that they need to get on board in a hurry, and that all of your friends and family need to be called as soon as possible. Spouses, friends and family will usually be turned off by network marketing and the best thing to do is simply get them with your sponsor in the beginning, and that will take more than one conversation in most cases. People just aren't trained properly and ready for the rejection and possible ridicule right out of the gate. After some time and training on handling rejection, then let friends and family know what you are doing. Even then, you only inform them. If it's a "yes" response, that's good. If it's a "no" response, that's also good. We all learn to treat both responses with the same emotion. The action of giving people the information is what is important, every time, every day. As Ray Higdon has said, "say less to more people". Saying too much to any one person slows down your business growth. The next trap is not realizing that it will take a massive effort in the beginning to get your business off the ground. Just like a big plane or big train, it takes some massive horsepower to get started. After that, you will be able to maintain the business with reasonable horsepower, but don't ever let off the gas completely. If you lose momentum, you lose some of your horsepower in the process. Network marketing is a numbers game when you are trying to find open minded people. Once people join, then it's a people business and you learn to be a leader. It is a tragedy when people quite before they understand these things. Network marketing can give them the life they want, but we have to grow before our business can really be healthy.
